Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School offers a Catholic Education. (PreK3 - Gr. 8) in the Salesian style to the children of Port Chester and its surroundings. In an environment of faith, optimism and family, students are nurtured and challenged to reach their full potential. Since 1945, Corpus Christi Holy Rosary has equipped children with the knowledge and skills for successful entry into high school and beyond, making them life-long learners and leaders for today’s world.

Our school is under the direction of the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. Parents, faculty and alumni know that a child and family who enter our halls begin life-long relationships which support faith, family, and values.

Corpus Christi Holy Rosary is accredited by AdvancEd and serves children from Pre-K3 through Grade 8.
Curriculum is based on the Standards of the State of New York and on the Archdiocese of New York. Gospel values and Catholic practice are infused in every aspect of the child’s experience. As a Catholic school, faith is an essential part of our identity.  Religion is not only a subject for us, but it is taught as a way of life.   We pray every morning, and before and after lunch each day. We emphasize love and kindness in every daily situation and we make sure that the children understand the real reason we celebrate holidays. (For example, at Christmas, we make sure that the children know we are celebrating because it is Jesus's birthday).

Our Early Childhood Program is a full day program for PK3, PK4 and kindergarten children. Corpus Christi-Holy Rosary School’s Pre-Kindergarten curriculum is an academic program with an emphasis on reading and math readiness.  We concentrate on recognition of alphabet letters and reinforcement of letter sounds.  Early literacy is promoted through stories, poems, rhymes, songs, and drawings.   In math, we emphasize recognition of numerals as well as understanding number value. In the PreK3 year, identification of shapes and colors are also taught and reinforced.  We also incorporate short lessons and activities using our classroom ACTIVBoards.

Gross motor skills are developed when we dance and act out songs and rhymes and when we throw and catch bean bags and play outdoors on the playground.  We also develop fine motor skills in numerous ways.  Simple tasks like doing puzzles, playing with play-doh, and reciting and performing finger-plays help prepare the muscles in little fingers to be more proficient in writing and coloring.  We do a lot of cutting with scissors and pasting, tracing letters and numbers, and practicing writing our names.

Every day, throughout the week, the children are immersed in an enriching variety of activities in a safe, family-like environment. In addition to morning prayer, we salute the flag, review calendar and weather, enjoy circle time and stories, and engage in seasonal lessons with whole group and/or small group instruction.  The structured parts of our days are balanced with centers, indoor free play, outdoor play when weather permits, songs and dances, arts and crafts, and rest time.  PK-4 and Kindergarten also receive computer instruction in our computer lab and iPad centers! Gym and music classes also stimulate us to discover the world inside of us and around us! Students make full use of our spacious facility. They enjoy spaces designated exclusively for them and a developmentally appropriate playground space.

Three- and four-year-olds are still young children who need "down time" and to learn through play.  Nonetheless, our Kindergarten is quite academic, and we are proud to offer a balanced Pre-Kindergarten experience for the growth of the whole child as we prepare these littlest students for that step into the next grade at Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School.

Our K- 8 Program is both rigorous and nurturing, dedicated to the instruction of students with different learning styles and multiple intelligences.

Our students in grades K-5 learn in self-contained classrooms, and our Middle School students in grades 6-8 rotate according to subject.  Each classroom builds upon a unified, vertically integrated curriculum that fluidly integrates Common Core Curriculum Standards.

Daily use of technology – laptops, desktops, interactive whiteboards, and iPads – enable students to reinforce and master these subject Standards.  The students in grades 5 through 8 also use technology to fulfill our requirement of proficiency in a foreign language through the Duo Lingo program.

After school enrichment programs and remediation are available to further assist students. Teachers work diligently and with great love in order to ensure that all children are accompanied and encourage them so that each child can succeed to his or her highest potential.

In addition to the core subjets – Religion, ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science – the students also participate in and learn through their Specials classes: P.E., Art, Music, Computers, and Library. Students in grades 6-8 are also challenged to deeper thinking and intellectual exploration through hands-on Science Lab and Language Lab so they may be well-prepared for high school and interaction in a global reality.

Corpus Christi Holy Rosary students are found using and developing their gifts and talents not only in the classroom but also in after school activities such as band, robotics, sports and the reading and arts programs.  Every year we stage two age level Christmas shows.

After a great foundation built through our Pre-Kindergarten program, every student grows through our comprehensive K-8 educational program that prepares them not only for high school, but for life.

Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School welcomes children of all races, religions, national or ethnic origins.

The history of Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School is a remarkable record of devoted work by the Salesian priests and brothers and the Salesian Sisters with the generous and enthusiastic support by the people of Port Chester.

Corpus Christi Church, located in the Washington Park section of Port Chester, saw its greatest growth under the dynamic leadership of the Rev. Peter M. Rinaldi, S.D.B. who was appointed pastor in 1949. With the arrival of the Salesian Sisters, the school opened its doors in September of 1959 to children from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. By 1963, Corpus Christi School provided education from grades Kindergarten through Eighth.

Plans for the initial school facility included provisions for future expansion. In 1996, plans were completed for the expansion. With the addition of the north wing of the School, the building is now three stories, providing large comfortable classrooms, a library, a science lab, a nurse’s offices, a gymnasium, computer lab and a cafeteria.

Holy Rosary Church, formerly named the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, traces its history to work begun by Italian immigrants in this area on October 7, 1903. In 1912, the Salesians first came to serve the parishioners of Holy Rosary in the person of Fr. Bernard Gentilini.

Under the direction of Fr. Aloysius Trifari, the parish purchased the Lincoln Public School building on Central Avenue in May of 1945. After raising monies for renovations, Holy Rosary School was opened to 181 students on September 10 of the same year with the convent located on the upper floor of the school building.

In 1954, the parish’s Jubilee Year, an addition to the school was built providing a lunch room and gymnasium-auditorium.

Grades 6 – 8 were added, a new convent was built, and the school enrollment grew steadily to a peak of 458 in September of 1960. True to its original mission, Holy Rosary School continued to serve the immigrant population of Port Chester.

In the 2008-2009 school year, Holy Rosary School, merged with Corpus Christi School, placing all Salesian elementary school students under the same roof. Today Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School is home to children of Grades PreK – 8th, all enjoying the beautiful, expansive, and well maintained facility on South Regent Street. Don Bosco’s legacy of educational excellence lived in environment of faith, optimism, joy and Family Spirit flourishes in these halls!

"Growing up as part of the CCHRS family has helped shape me into the person I am today. Here I have learned through example to share God's love with everyone around me. It has been a true blessing and I can only hope to pass on this experience for many generations to come!"
